Personally, I do not understand the rationale behind eliminating the Elements part of the Template Layout and replacing it with the Gadget thing. How does one now add html to the sidebars. I really do not want to add Google Gadgets everywhere. I hope Blogger goes back to the previous Layout Settings format. This new idea may cause a thorn in the side!

I don't understand it myself. I prefer to have a simple, clean layout rather than a gadget loaded blog.
I agree with you. I liked that we had a choice before - now our only choice is what we post and what Google Gadget we choose!
The add HTML/Javascript option is still there, it is in my blogger anyway. I agree with the other comments; all those widgets serve little purpose but to slow down page loading. Still; they're fun and I like them. I guess it depends on how professional you're trying to be.
I like the picture of the thorn. BTW, I added you to my blog list. :)
